Melvin “Mel” F. Rizzo, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 18, 1943, in Sewickley, he was the son of the late Melvin A. Rizzo and Marceline (Curtis) Rizzo.
A passionate golfer, Mel also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from the United States Postal Service after years of dedicated service. In 1963, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and bravely served in the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action and honored with a Purple Heart.
Mel was a proud member of the Marine Corps League #882, VFW Post #6713 in Conway, and Vietnam Veterans of America #862.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Janice (Trella) Rizzo; his son, Brent Rizzo; his daughter, Michele Rizzo Seneca; his cherished grandson, Patsy M. Seneca III; his loyal husky, Stella; his brother, Edward (Vicki) Rizzo; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A military service to honor Mel’s life will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Alvarez-Hahn Funeral Services and Cremation, LLC, 547 8th Street, Ambridge, at 11:45 AM to proceed to the cemetery.
