Richard "Coach" Sabol Obituary

Richard A. "Coach" Sabol, 82, New Sewickley Twp., passed away at home on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was the son of the late Joseph and Julia Sabol. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Remaley Sabol, his children, Paula (Dean) Casello, Richard Sabol Jr., Jocelyn Sabol, Nick Sabol, siblings, David ( Tina) Sabol, Susan Sabol Storar, grandchildren, Elise Casello, Jimmy Casello, Dean ( Jaye Marie) Casello, Emily Casello, Julianna Sabol, Landon Chmura, Nicholas ( Elizabeth) French, Luke Sabol, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was a graduate of Freedom Area High School and served his country in the United States Air Force. He was employed with Conrail Railroad (Norfolk Sothern) for 30 years. During his tenure with Conrail, he was a representative for the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers becoming the Vice General Chairman.  Richard was a natural athlete and began coaching for Freedom School District girls’ and boys’ basketball, baseball, and football teams.  He led the Conway Croatian Club basketball team to a national championship. He was a devout parishioner of Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Ambridge and was a member of the Conway V.F.W and Conway Croatian Club Lodge 540.  As his condition worsened, his former players visited him at home to pay tribute to the life lessons he had taught them over the years. His family is forever grateful to those who visited Richard at his bedside during his final hours. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
